CHANTILLY, Va., April 9, 2013 – Decision Sciences International Corporation (DSIC), an advanced technology provider of security and detection systems, today announced it has been awarded a contract by the United Kingdom (UK)-based Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) to provide a muon tomography scanner system for research on new scanning and imaging applications.

Muon tomography uses naturally occurring cosmic ray muons to safely and securely detect and image high density material. Additional contract options may include ongoing system support.

AWE provides and maintains nuclear armaments for the UK, overseeing all aspects of the munitions. This includes research, design and manufacturing as well as assembly, maintenance, decommissioning and disposal of nuclear warheads.

“We are pleased to support the work of AWE,” said Decision Sciences President and CEO Dr. Stanton D. Sloane. “This contract expands our reach into the United Kingdom.”

An AWE spokesperson said, “Decision Sciences has an established and excellent reputation in this area and we are excited to work with them. Their unique technology enables the important nuclear security function that AWE performs in the UK.”

AWE has performed a key role in the national defense of the UK for more than 50 years. AWE is operated by AWE Management Limited, a company consisting of three stakeholders – Serco Group plc, Lockheed Martin and Jacobs Engineering Group.
