The Discovery® scanning system measures muons, and naturally occurring charged particles which constantly and safely pass through the atmosphere all day every day. Unlike x-rays and gamma rays, the Discovery® uses technology that captures charged particles passing through all known shielding materials including water, ice, steel, lead or concrete.
